Do not condone Afghanistan’s humanitarian needs: UN to Intl-Community

High commissioner of UNHCR Filippo Grandi who has recently visited Afghanistan insisted that more assistance should be provided for people in Afghanistan and added that Afghan refugees should not be forgotten either.

Filippo Grandi has added that for millions of Afghans who are starving, who are thirsty, and who have no shelter; there should be urgent assistance provided.

He said the ongoing situation in Afghanistan is complicated but acknowledged that the UNHCR is committed to providing humanitarian assistance.

“The crisis in Ukraine and its neighboring countries is spreading but my message is, that big crisis like Ukraine should not make us forget Afghanistan’s crisis. Afghanistan and other countries like Afghanistan need the attention of UNHCR’s and other humanitarian organizations.” Said Grandi.

Filippo Grandi has also said that he has offered some initiative for addressing the humanitarian crisis that needs international support.

The UNHCR high commissioner expressed consent over the Taliban’s cooperation and agreement in providing, health services, education, and clean water to people.

Earlier, WFP warned that the Ukraine crisis will lead to a hike in the prices of food and fuel in Afghanistan.
