District police chief among 8 killed in Kandahar infighting

Afghan policeAAt least eight people including the district police chief for Spin Boldak were killed following infighting among the policemen in Kandahar.

According to local government officials, the incident took place late Thursday night in Spin Boldak district.

Provincial governor spokesman, Dawa Khan Meenapal, said the infighting erupted following a verbal clash between the district police chief and a police commander.

Meenapal further added that the district police chief were killed along with seven other policemen following the infighting.

He said the police commander, Mohammad Reza, managed to flee the area following the clash and police have started an operation for his detention.

According to Meenapal, the infighting took place due to personal reasons and there was no involvement of the anti-government armed militants in the incident.

Kandahar is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban militants are actively operating in its various districts.
