deadly Kabul attackThe Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan (MoD) released the name of the Afghan soldier who opened fire on coalition forces in Kabul military academy.

Defense Ministry spokesman, Gen. Zahir Azimi, said investigations are still being conducted regarding the incident which left a US major general dead.

Gen. Zahir Azimi furhter added that preliminary reports suggest that the assailant soldier was recognized as Rafiullah who was serving in Afghan armed forces during the past two and half years.

The deceased American general was recognized as major general Harold Greene who was the highest-ranked American officer killed in combat in the nation’s post-911 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to US officials.

Maj. general Greene was involved in preparing Afghan forces for the time when U.S.-coalition troops leave at the end of this year.

At least 15 people including a German and two Afghan generals were also injured following the attack which took place at Marshal Fahim National Defence University.

The main motive which forced the Afghan soldier to open fire on Afghan and coalition forces is not clear so far.

In the meantime, Gen. Azimi, said full details regarding the incident will be released once the investigation process has been completed.
