The Afghan intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) announced Saturday that the Afghan intelligence operatives discovered and seized a car packed with heavy explosives in northern Faryab province.

The statement further added that the militants were looking to carry out attack against the election campaign teams using the vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED).

According to National Directorate of Security (NDS), the explosives seized from the vehicle included 23 rounds of artillery shells, one BM-12 rocket, one BM-21 rocket, 2 barrels of explosives, 2 gas cylinders and other types of explosives.

NDS officials said the vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) was seized before the militants manage to target the election campaign teams.

The intelligence officials did not disclose further information regarding the detention of any suspected militant in connection to the explosives discovery.

Faryab is among the relatively peaceful provinces in northern Afghanistan, however Taliban militants and insurgents from the other militant groups have recently increased their insurgency activities in a number of its districts.
