Deadly blast kill 47, injure over 100 in Quetta cityAccording to Pakistani police officials, at least 65 people were killed and more than 180 wounded Saturday when a large explosion shook Quetta, the capital of restive Balochistan province.

The officials further added the incident took place near a school at the busy Kirani road area of the city, located close to Hazara Town.

At least 47 people were killed in the blast, and that the number of casualties was feared to rise, security officials confirmed.

It was yet not clear if the blast was as a result of the suicide bombing or any other explosive device. The area was cordoned off by a large contingenet of security personnel, including police and FC forces.

In the meantime unconfirmed reports suggest that more than 800 to 1000 kilograms of explosives were planted inside a rickshaw.

A senior police office in Quetta city Wazir Khan Nasir said, “It was a sectarian attack, the Shia community was the target.”

Akbar Hussain Durrani provincial home secretary confirmed the incident and said women and children were also among those killed in today’s incident.

The Hazara Town area is dominated by the ethnic Hazaras, a large population of which belongs to the Shia community.
