Deadly airstrikes target Taliban insurgents in Helmand leaving several dead

A series of airstrikes targeted the Taliban insurgents in at least two districts of the restive Helmand province in the South, leaving several fighters of the group dead.

A spokesman for the 215th Maiwand Corps of the Afghan Army in the South General Nawab Zadran confirmed the airstrikes were carried out in the outskirts of Lashkargah city and in Nawa district.

Gen. Zadran further added at least 6 militants were killed and 7 others were wounded in the first airstrike carried out late on Saturday night in Bolan area of Lashkargah city.

He said the second airstrike was carried out in Nawa district leaving at least 7 insurgents dead besides destroying their weapons, ammunitions, and vehicles.

In the meantime, another official said at least 8 Taliban insurgents were killed and several others were wounded during a clash with the police forces on Helmand-Kandahar highway.

According to Gen. Zadran, the airstrikes were carried out jointly by the Afghan and foreign forces based in the country.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where numerous deadly attacks have been carried out by the Taliban insurgents during the recent months.

The Afghan security forces with the support of the foreign forces also conduct regular operations to suppress insurgency of the Taliban.
