The former Afghan interior minister Mohammad Omar Daudzai has said Pakistan is against peace and stability in Afghanistan, insisting that the Afghan government should not expect the country to help in bring peace in Afghanistan.
In his speech during a ceremony to mark the death anniversary of a senior police official Hekmatullah Haqmal, Daudzai said Pakistan was never in favor of peace in Afghanistan.
This comes as Daudzai earlier said Pakistan is approaching its own interests in the Afghan peace process.
“Because they went via Pakistan. We have already been through that route, and we saw it. Pakistan was not ill yesterday so that they recover and step in to assist us,” he said during a gathering in capital Kabul earlier last month.
Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace process is seen vital since the country is having considerable influence on Taliban since the group was found in early 90s.
The country is also part of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group which was formed with an aim to revive the Afghan peace process.
However, Daudzai who has served as Afghan ambassador to Pakistan said the country has its objectives and demands in Afghanistan which can never be fulfilled by the current government or the upcoming governments.
This is not the first the Afghan officials have blamed Pakistan for interfering in the internal affairs of Afghanistan and supporting the Taliban group by providing them with shelter in their soil.
Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz earlier admitted that Islamabad has influence on Taliban group and could use certain leverages to bring the representatives of the group to negotiations table.
However, the Taliban has rejected to participate in the talks and once again presented the group’s pre-conditions to revive talks with the Afghan government.
