According to local authorities in eastern Afghanistan, several heavy artillery shells were fired into eastern Kunar province from Pakistan soil in the latest wave of cross-border shelling.

The officials further added Dangam district in eastern Kunar province was hit by a number artillery shells on Sunday night.

Provincial governor Wasifullah Wasifi confirming the report said at least 45 missiles were fired in Dangam district on Sunday however the shelling did not incur any casualties to local residents.

This comes as Afghanistan parliament voted to sack Defense Minister Gen. Abdul Rahim Wardak and Interior Minister Gen. Besmillah Mohammadi earlier this month for failing to respond to rocket shelling from Pakistan.

The Pakistani military has shelled Afghanistan several times this year, actions that have enraged Afghan authorities.
