China will start construction of 1400 apartments in the Nila Bagh area of Darul Aman, ​​Kabul, the contract for the project was signed today between the Afghan Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, and the Chinese company MCC19.

President Ghani and the Chinese ambassador to Kabul were also present at the signing ceremony, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

China is committed to building 10,000 housing units under a 2015 Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Afghanistan, the initial phase includes 1400 apartments to be constructed.

Reports indicate the construction of the first phase of this town will be completed and put into operation within 40 months.

According to reports in 2017 the fund was estimated to be 300 million dollars for the entire project.

It is noteworthy, that in 2017 the project’s accord was signed between former Minister Sayed Saadat Mansour Naderi and the former Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Yao Jing.

The work is expected to start soon on 21 hectares of land, involving 56 five-storey residential blocks, 280 four-room apartments, 560 three-room apartments, and 560 two-room apartments.

The housing project is the largest Chinese funded project in Afghanistan.
