Close ally of Taliban leader killed in Helmand

According to Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate for Security (NDS) a prominent Taliban was killed in southern Helmand province.

Afghan Intelligence following a statement announced, Mullah Abdul Salam Abid, brother of Abdul Qayoum Zakir the second deputy of the Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omer was killed along with his 25 companions.

The source further added Mullah Abdul Salam Abid was killed following a joint military operation conducted by Afghan and coalition security forces at Kajaki district.

Afghan and coalition security forces seized some weapons, ammunition and explosives including suicide vests following the operation.

Anti-government armed militant groups yet to comment regarding the reports.
