Afghan policeAt least 12 people, including 6 militants and 6 members of the Afghan national security forces were killed following clashes in northern Kunduz province.

According to local government officials, the clashes between the Taliban militants and Afghan security forces broke out late on Wednesday.

The officials further added that four Afghan national army soldiers and two policemen were martyred after a group of militants launched coordinated attacks on security check posts in Imam Sahib district.

District administrative chief for Imam Sahib, Amanuddin Qoreshi confirmed that heavy clashes took place between Afghan forces and Taliban militants.

He confirmed that 6 members of the Afghan police and Afghan national army were martyred and 6 others were injured during the clashes.

According to Qoreshi, a number of foreign militants, including Chechens and Uzbeks had also taken part in the offensive which resulted to collapse of certain regions to Taliban control.

Kunduz is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are recently increased insurgency activities.
