Clashes have erupted between the Taliban and Iranian forces in the border areas of Nimroz province, according to media reports on Saturday.

According to reports, the border clashes occurred in the Nimruz province of Afghanistan’s Makaki region, close to the Kang districts.

The region lies near Zabol in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-Balouchestan.

“Around 10:00 am today, Taliban forces started shooting with all kinds of weapons at an Iranian police station from the Afghanistan side,” the local news agency reported.

The official did not say if there were any casualties, while the report said that “light and semi-light weapons and artillery were used in the clashes”.

A mortar shell that struck the former airfield of the provincial capital Zaranj City is shown in the aftermath in a video circulating on social media.

The cause of the clash is still unknown.
