Cholera outbreak in BadakhshanAccording to local authorities in northeastern Bakhshan province of Afghanistan, at least 1400 people have been infected following cholera outbreak in this province.

Provincial public health officials confirmed that a 19-year-old girl died after she was infected with cholera in Derayam district.

Head of the public health department, Noor Khawari said at least 1400 people have been infected with the cholera type infection, and the health condition of 25 people were critical.

Mr. Khawari further added that the main reason behind the cholera outbreak was the lack of clean water.

He said mobile health care teams have been deployed to the area to provide treatment for the infected individuals, and international non-governmental organizations including WHO, UNICEF and Merlin are also assisting the health teams in providing medical care.
