Hassan Kazemi Qomi Special Representative of Iran to Afghanistan and Chinese Special Envoy Yue Xiaoyong met in Iran and discussed Afghanistan, emphasizing on the continuing bilateral cooperation with the war-torn country.

Qomi on Sunday said on Twitter that this meeting was held following the decisions made by the presidents of China and Iran in the previous week.

Qomi further added that in the meeting, Beijing-Iran’s development programs aimed at achieving sustainable peace in Afghanistan were thoroughly discussed. The mechanisms for implementing this bilateral cooperation were also assessed.

This comes as the Chinese Special Representative for Afghanistan prior to visiting Tehran had met with Qatari officials and the head of the Taliban’s political office in Doha Qatar.

Last week, Xi Jinping Chinese President, and his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi up on the conclusion of the three-day visit to Peking in a joint statement called on the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan for establishing an all-inclusive government in which all ethnic groups and political factions could see them represented.

Iranian and Chinese leaders have emphasized that the United States of America and the NATO alliance should be accountable for the existing dire economic and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

Since the return of the Taliban to power in August 2021, both Iran and China have maintained close ties with the Afghan Interim Regime. Besides keeping their embassies functional in Kabul, both countries have continuously delivered vital aid to the people of Afghanistan during these difficult economic times.

America’s hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan is considered a strategic win for both Iran and China which never wanted US presence on the soil of their immediate neighbor any longer.
