Pope Francis says he is praying for those affected by the catastrophic earthquake that struck Afghanistan and left at least 1,000 people dead and almost 1,500 injured. He has also made a request for assistance on behalf of everyone who was affected, according to Vatican News.
The Pope conveyed his sympathy to everyone impacted by the earthquake that, in his words, “had claimed lives and caused considerable damage in Afghanistan” while speaking during the Wednesday General Audience.
“And I especially pray for those who lost their lives and their families,” he said.
“I hope we can lessen the suffering of the dear people of Afghanistan with everyone’s support,” he called on people to help for the people of Afghanistan, especially those affected by the devastating earthquake.
Meanwhile, United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has also expressed its “sincere condolences and solidarity with the Afghan people”, through an official statement released today, June 22nd.
