At least six were killed and more than 10 were wounded in a car bombing near an Afghan army base in Baghlan Province, local officials said.

Sources in Baghlan confirmed that the blast occurred at around 2:00 AM (Local time) in Bagh-e- Shamal area of Pul-e-Khumri on Thursday.

Local officials stated that the Baghlan-Samangan highway also has been blocked for traffic as the Taliban planted IEDs on the main roads.

Meanwhile, Abbas Tawakoli, commander of the 217th Pamir Corps, confirmed that the vehicle was identified by security forces before it could reach its target.

Tawakoli stated that the blast followed clashes between Taliban militants and Afghan security forces, which were repulsed by security forces.

Due to the blast, many soldiers were killed and wall of the military base were destroyed, Abbas Tawakoli added.

He said, “The security forces operation has been slowed down due to the roadside mines in Baghlan-Samangan highway.”
