Britain’s Human Rights Ambassador, Rita French, in a speech said that Afghan women are subjected to “grave”, “institutionalized” and systematic oppression in Afghanistan.
Rita French, the UK’s human rights ambassador, made a statement on September 20 about the deteriorating conditions for women and girls in Afghanistan, stating that they have been severely restricted from enjoying their human rights.
Women in Afghanistan are confined to their houses and are the only people in the world who are not allowed to attend secondary school, French said, voicing concerns.
French also commended the unwavering determination and bravery of human rights advocates in Afghanistan for drawing the world’s attention to the appalling circumstances Afghan women are in Afghanistan.
According to the human rights figure, the demands of the international community from the Taliban are “clear”, which is to simply observe human rights and women’s rights, allowing them to work, study and live freely.
“The UK will continue strongly championing the voices of Afghan women and girls and continue to provide life-saving support and provide space for Afghan women’s voices,” French added.
This comes as with the installation of the Taliban Afghan women have been subjected to the draconian policies and restrictions of the Taliban, which according to rights organizations is the complete erasure of women from society.
