Following the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2024) in Russia, the country’s media reported on the commencement of the annual meeting of the foreign ministers of the BRICS member countries in Nizhny Novgorod.

Russia’s TASS news agency reported on Monday, June 10, that the foreign ministers of the BRICS member countries, including China and India, traveled to Russia to participate in the annual BRICS meeting.

The main members of this group are Russia, China, India, Brazil, and South Africa. They hold annual meetings in emerging economies to discuss political and economic solutions to current challenges.

Russia is hosting BRICS 2024, as Vladimir Putin did not attend the previous meeting in South Africa last year due to an international court’s issuance of a detention order against him.

Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has described the purpose of holding this meeting as examining current issues and the international agenda, improving global order with an emphasis on strengthening the role of developing countries, resolving disputes, and engaging in multilateral interaction.

Russia recently hosted leaders from various countries around the world who had come to the city, Putin’s hometown, to participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
