68 people wounded in Zabul suicide attack

68 people have been wounded in a suicide attack in restive Zabul province, hospital sources confirmed on Monday.

Haji Ata Jan Haqbayan, head of the provincial council of Zabul province said that a suicide attacker riding in an explosives-laden truck carried out a huge explosion in front of the front gate of the compound of provincial council around 11:00 AM this morning.

He said most victims of the attack are civilians who had come to the provincial council for different issues.

Haqbayan every Monday there is a sort of “public day” in the compound of the provincial council where members of the council listen to the issues people face in this province and try to find ways for solving them.

Hospital sources in Qalat confirm that including children and women they have received 68 people in wounded condition from the area and five of them are in critical condition.

Asadullah Kakar, Haji Dur Mohammad, Fawzia Younasi and Zar bibi members of the Provincial Council are among the victims.

Media center of Zabul province and adjourning compounds have also received severe damages in attack.

Taliban militants accepted responsibility for the attack carried out during their “Spring Offensive”.

It comes after Pakistan warned Taliban to immediately end their offensive in Afghanistan, if not serious consequences will follow.

Afghan political analyzers say if Pakistan is honest to its word’s they will show re-action to Taliban attack in Zabul.
