A credible source says Popal has stepped back from his nomination as Finance Minister for the new cabinet.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that Mr. Popal has dual citizenship which can be a reason for stepping back from the nomination as a minister.
According to the policy an Afghan cannot be a minister unless he/she cancel other citizenships.
According to the source Popal’s replacement in sight is Eklil Hakimi who has served as Afghanistan’s ambassador to U.S. A.
This is the 2nd nominee of the new cabinet going off the list.
Mohammad Yaqoub Haidari was the 1st to go for alleged violation of law in Estonia.
He was on the most wanted list of Interpol because of the accusations.
