Provincial officials of western Herat province said that the explosions that took place in Police District 12th of the Herat city killed at least five civilians and wounded 22 more.

Health officials believe that the number of casualties might rise as those wounded are in a critical situation.

Bakhtar News Agency-Afghan state-run Agency- reported that the incident was caused by explosions of two bombs that were planted on playground in the city.

The report further says that four bombs were planted at all among them two defused.

The twin bombs detonated in an all-Shi’te Muslim residence where people were busy playing in a playground called Sang Girak on Friday afternoon.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the explosions but the Shi’ite Muslims are often targeted by ISIS-K in Afghanistan.
