An explosion rocked the eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan earlier today leaving the district administrative chief of Bati Kot wounded.
According to the security officials, the incident took place after a magnetic bomb planted in the vehicle of district chief Haji Ghalib Mujahid was detonated.
The officials further added that the driver of Mujahid was killed and he was injured in the attack along with one of his security guards.
The provincial government media office in a statement said Mujahid was on his way from Kabul to Nangarhar province when his vehicle was targeted.
No group including the Taliban insurgents has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
The Taliban insurgents and militants belonging to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group are actively operating in a number of the remote districts of Nangarhar including the restive Bati Kot district.
The Afghan forces launched a major clearance operation to eliminate the loyalists of ISIS terrorist group in Bati Kot district few months earlier.
