Baghlan’s Burka district falls to Taliban

Security officials in Baghlan province said that the “Burka” district of the province has fallen to Taliban militants on Tuesday night.

Jawed Basharat, a spokesman for Baghlan police HQ said that the district has collapsed following Taliban offensive operations.

According to Basharat, Afghan defense and security forces are currently stationed in another location close to the region, the defense units are preparing to push the militants back and retake the region.

The provincial spokesman did not further provide information on the incident.

Meanwhile, Taliban attacked an ANDSF outpost in “Baghlan Markazi” on Tuesday killing nine security force members.

Reports indicate further 16 security force members were captured by the Taliban fighters, and several of the ANDSF armored vehicles were also set on fire by the insurgent group.

This comes as the Ministry of Defense in a statement said that 25 Taliban fighters were killed in Nahr-e-Saraj and Lashkargah districts of the Helmand province.

MoD bulletin added that Afghan National Defense and Security Forces backed by Afghan Air Force targeted Taliban militants in Nahr-e-Saraj and Lashkargah districts of the province.

Shoib, known as Saifullah a Taliban commander was also among the killed 25 militants and further four Taliban fighters were reported wounded, the statement added.

The operation also resulted in damaging some weapons and ammunition belonging to the Taliban.

In another security incident, the police chief for the “Sarawza” district was killed during a fierce battle in the region on early Wednesday morning.

The heavy clashes between government forces and the Taliban took place at around 3:00 am local time in the Sarawza district of Paktika province.

The district police chief was killed when his vehicle hit an IED while he was on his way to provide support to the battling security forces, Shah Mohammad Arian the provincial police spokesman told the media.

He added three policemen were also wounded in the region.

According to Arian, the Taliban have also suffered heavy casualties, but the group has not yet commented on the incident.
