Badakhshan avalanche death toll rises to 30

According to local authorities in north-eastern Badakhshan province, avalanche incident has killed at least 30 people in this province.

The officials further added, the incident took place in Raghistan, Kohistan, Yawaran and Eshkashim regions of Badakhshan province.

A local official in the central city of Faizabad said, a village was completely covered by avalanche in Eshkashim.

According to reports, at least 70,000 people were living in the village of Zich, which was struck with the avalanche however the exact number of people stuck inside the snow has not clear yet.

The officials also said that the rescue team has started to their operations but there are no reports regarding the progress of the rescue operations.

The officials have also formed an emergency meeting to discuss further steps for the prevention of the region which are threatened by avalanche.

Reports in the central regions of Afghanistan suggests that several highways and roads have been closed as a result of heavy snow.
