Deputy Attorney General said Monday that invalid votes will be investigated because of complaints about corruption in the process

Some complaints received by the Attorney General’s Office indicate corruption in the process through which votes were announced invalid, said Deputy Attorney General, Rahmatullah Nazari.

The Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) is expected to cancel some more votes by tomorrow.

While the final vote counting results of the parliamentary election is due to be announced in no longer than 15 days.

“There are some reports of corruption claiming that genuine votes of some candidates have been announced invalid and we want to appoint a representative to investigate the issue,” said Mr Nazari.

The spokesman for ECC, Ahmad Zia Rafat said: “Even if the Independent Election Commission has not been fair about the votes, the electoral Complaints Commission is not responsible for it.”

“And now that the Attorney General’s Office steps in, the question on how the process takes place goes back to Attorney General’s Office and Independent Election Commission,” he added.

The Independent Election Commission, based on the law, has the right to announce suspected votes invalid, ECC said.
