Atmar orders probe after gunmen assassinate top Special Forces commander in Kabul

The National Security Adviser of Afghanistan Mohammad Hanif Atmar has ordered a probe after a unknown gunmen assassinated a top commander of the Special Forces in capital Kabul on Thursday.

According to a statement released by the Office of the National Security Council, Atmar has condemned the attack on the commander of the 01 Unit of Paktika Special Azizullah Karwan which led to his martyrdom.

Atmar further added that Karwan was one of the prominent soldier and commander who was fighting for the defense of his country.

He said Karwan stood like a steel wall against the terrorists and slaves of the enemies of Afghanistan and managed to train several Afghan youths in the military.

Calling the martyrdom of Karwan a huge loss for the country, Atmar however said the comrades of Karwan will follow his footsteps to bravely defend the country.

Atmar said he has instructed all military and intelligence institutions to carefully investigate the incident involving the attack on Karwan and identify and introduce the perpetrators to the judicairy institutions.

The Taliban group claimed responsibility behind the attack on Karwan in Kabl city.

The Kabul security officials are saying that two people including Karwan lost their lives in the attack and three others sustained injuries, including a woman.
