The governor of northern Balkh province of Afghanistan, Ata Mohammad Noor has rejected allegations against him which suggest he owns over 500 properties, including multi-million buildings in Mazar-e-Sharif city.
In an online statement issued on Friday, Noor rejected involvement in corruption and said he owns only a few properties which have been left from his father.
Noor said the statement was issued following the circulation of a report online on social media website – Facebook, suggesting his involvement in corruption, ownership of over 500 properties and hundreds of millions of dollars deposited by him in foreign banks.
He challenged the producers of the report and promised to transfer all the illegal money to government control even if $5 million is found in his bank account or any other accounting belonging to his family.
Noor is a prominent political figure, former Mujahideen leader and the chief executive officer of Jamiat-e-Islami party of Afghanistan.
He was a close ally of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah during the first and second round of presidential election.
