A gunman shot and killed at least eight people and injured seven others at a busy mall in the north of Dallas city on Saturday, according to security officials.

It is reported that the gunman acted alone and his motive was not yet known. The perpetrator was killed by a police officer after he opened firing outside of the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Dallas Texas, the city’s police chief Brian Harvey said at a press conference.

The city’s health services department has said it carried at least nine victims with gunshots to the area hospitals, two of whom died at the hospital, and three others were in critical health conditions.

Meanwhile, police in the city of Frisco, Texas said they had evacuated the Stonebriar Mall late Saturday after receiving reports of shots fired there. It was not yet clear if a shooting had actually taken place.

It is reported that ‘armed violence’ including mass shootings has turned into a normal incident in the United States. In the current year, the US has seen at least 198 mass shootings, most of which have occurred since 2016.

Previously also, similar horrific incidents took place at birthday parties, concerts, public places and schools in Texas, which resulted in the death and injury of women and children.

Following the increase in shootings in public places, Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott described the incident as an “unspeakable tragedy” and announced the signing of laws that restricts the use of firearms among ordinary citizens in Texas.
