Around 20 militants killed and injured in Kandahar province

Thursday, November 10, 2011 – According to local authorities in southern Afghanistan, at least 9 Taliban militants were killed and 9 others were detained following a joint military operation by Afghan police forces backed by Afghan army forces in southern Kandahar province during the past one week.
The officials further added, at least two other Taliban militants were also injured during the operations.
Provincial security chief for southern Kandahar province Gen. Rahmatullah Atrafi following a press conference on Thursday said, at least nine Taliban militants were killed across the Kandahar province during the clashes with the Afghan security forces and while planting roadside bombs in this province.
The source further added, at least four other Taliban militants were injured and at least two of the injured militants were arrested by the Afghan security forces.
Gen. Atrafi also said, at least seven militant insurgents who wanted to carry out insurgency activities during the first day of Eid-ul-Azha in southern kandahar province were detained along with 7 AK-47 rifles in third district of this province.
He also said, at least five Pakistani residents from the Panjab province who were trying to plant roadsides bombs in Zherai district were killed during clashes with a convoy of Afghan police forces while they were patrolling in the area.
According to Gen. Rahmatullah Atrafi, the Eid-ul-Azha ceremony was celebrated better as compared to other years in southern Kandahar province without witnessing any insurgency activities by the militants in this province.
Taliban group yet to comment regarding the operations.
