An armed man was arrested near U.S. President Donald Trump’s golf club in Los Angeles two days before the president visited the property for a Republican fundraising event, authorities said on Tuesday.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the suspect was detained near Trump National Golf Club Rancho Palos Verdes during security operations conducted ahead of Trump’s arrival.

Local law enforcement said the arrest was made as part of routine protective measures but did not identify the suspect or disclose the circumstances that led to the detention. Authorities also said they had not determined whether the individual posed a direct threat to the president. The investigation remains ongoing.

Trump arrived at the golf club by helicopter on Tuesday evening to attend a fundraising dinner organized by the Republican National Committee (RNC). Federal and local security agencies coordinated extensive security measures around the venue before and during the event.

The incident comes amid heightened security surrounding Trump following multiple assassination attempts and security breaches since the start of his latest presidential campaign. U.S. authorities have significantly expanded protective measures for the president’s public appearances and campaign-related events.

The arrest also coincided with renewed diplomatic developments involving Iran.

Earlier this week, Trump said the United States was holding “very good talks” with Iran despite Tehran’s repeated denial that direct negotiations are taking place. He said diplomacy remained his preferred option but warned that failure to reach an agreement could have serious consequences.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has rejected reports of direct talks, maintaining that Tehran has neither hosted nor sent delegations for negotiations with Washington.

U.S. authorities have not linked the arrest near the golf club to any specific security threat or ongoing international developments. Officials said investigations into the incident are continuing.
