The ARG Presidential Palace reacted to the demands of presidential candidates regarding the formation of a caretaker government, insisting that only the Supreme Court of the country can interprate the law.
A presidential spokeperson Haroon Chakhansuri said the political parties and figures cannot interprate the law as per their own desire.
Chakhansuri further added that all other arrangements including ‘caretaker government’ are against the constitution and the system of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, insisting that the mechanisms recommended by presidential candidates have no legal basis.
This comes as a group of presidential candidates participated in a gathering in Kabul earlier today and suggested the formation of a caretaker government with the end of the national unity government’s term on 22nd of May.
Presidential runner Mohammad Haneef Atmar told reporters that the members of the council of presidential candidates will hold talks with the leaders of the government of national unity in this regard.
The proposal by council of presidential runner comes as almost four and half months are left for presidential elections.
Presidential elections are scheduled for 28th of September this year, according to Independent Election Commission.
