The president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has appointed General Bismillah Khan Mohammadi as the acting Minister of Defense, the Administrative Office of the president reported.
Pursuant to the separate presidential decrees, General Bismillah Mohammadi, General Abdul Satar Mirzakwal, and Hayatullah Hayat have been appointed as acting ministers for the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior Affairs and Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, respectively, the AOP said in a statement.
However, on Wednesday, June 16th, 2021, General Bismillah Khan Mohammadi was declared as the acting Minister of Interior Affairs, which demonstrates an unanticipated change in the cabinet and appointment of senior leading government officials.
General Bismillah Khan has worked as the Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior Affairs during the incumbency of President Hamid Karzai.
Former acting Minister of Interior Affairs Mr. Hayatullah Hayat was replaced by General Bismillah Khan Mohammadi, who was succeeded by General Abdul Satar Mirzakwal.
General Abdul Satar Mirzakwal previously served and took office as the Governor for Kundoz province.
These appointments are made as violence and conflict have risen substantially across Afghanistan, with battles between Taliban insurgents and Afghan forces taking place in almost 80 districts, leaving considerable loss for both sides, according to security sources.
These changes comes as the security situation in the country has got worsen, more terrorists and districts have fallen under the Taliban fighters control in the last couple of weeks.
