Sunday, June 05 – According to Afghan Ministry of Finance sources, annual governmental revenue and income has raised to $2 billion a year which previously was $200 million a year.

The sources further added that the increase in government income is as a result of government efforts to launch development projects.

According to Aziz Shams spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance, most of the donor countries have not spent their aid through the Afghan government. He said that lack of capacity in Afghanistan is the main barrier in implementing development projects and which has caused development projects not be utilized in a proper way.

He further added that capacity building in Afghan governmental offices and other reforms in the ministry have played important role in increasing governmental revenues so far.

Mr. Shams while not elaborating on types of contract he specifically meant, said that the process in which several subcontracts take place under an international funded projects creates misuse of the funds.

While 50% of international funds have been spent on security projects in Afghanistan, he described the National Solidarity Programme and road construction as the successful projects implemented by the Afghan government.
