
MAIDAN WARDAK, Afghanistan – The Afghan National Army (ANA) has cleared Jalriz-Maida Wardak highway from roadside mines planted by insurgents in the area, said the Ministry of Defense in a statement Tuesday, after carrying a “successful” operation at the location.
“#ANA cleared off Jalriz – Maidan Wardak highway from Taliban and IEDs last night,” said the MoD in a tweet.
According to the statement, the roadside mines were planted by the Taliban insurgents, which was the discovered and defused by security forces.
“They highway was was blocked due to IEDs placed by #Taliban,” the tweet added. “During the operations conducted by commandos, 14 Taliban were killed and 20 IEDs were discovered and defused.”
The Taliban did not immediately comment on the incident.
