Amir Khan Muttaqi will visit Islamabad to discuss strengthening bilateral ties, border security, trade, and cooperation with Pakistani officials.

Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban government, is set to embark on a three-day official visit to Pakistan. This trip marks his first formal engagement in Islamabad in over two years. While the exact dates of the visit have not yet been finalized, diplomatic sources have confirmed that the Taliban have accepted Pakistan’s official invitation.

According to reports from the Express Tribune, the upcoming visit will focus on enhancing bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries. Key agenda items include discussions on border security, the threat posed by insurgent groups, and the potential expansion of economic cooperation.

The visit follows recent Taliban efforts to crack down on members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who have been operating from Afghanistan territory. Islamabad views these actions as a positive step and hopes they signal a new phase of engagement and cooperation with the Taliban regime.

Pakistan has indicated its willingness to upgrade diplomatic relations with Kabul if the Taliban continue to act against groups threatening Pakistani security. Additionally, Islamabad has expressed readiness to support the Taliban economically, which could pave the way for increased trade and development projects.

Last week, Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, in Beijing. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated that both sides agreed to cooperate on advancing mutual interests, including trade, transit, communications, and security.

Relations between the Taliban and Pakistan remain tense due to the activities of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Most recently, Taliban forces clashed with Pakistani military personnel in the Bahramcha district of Helmand province. The confrontation lasted several hours, and details regarding any casualties have not yet been confirmed.

This diplomatic outreach reflects Pakistan’s strategic interest in stabilizing its western border and fostering a cooperative relationship with the Taliban government. Both sides stand to benefit from stronger ties amid regional security challenges and economic uncertainties.

The forthcoming visit of Amir Khan Muttaqi to Pakistan represents a crucial opportunity to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between the two neighbors. Given the complex security environment in the region, mutual cooperation on border management and counterterrorism efforts will be essential for lasting stability.
