Afghanistan Special OperationsA commander of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces was critically wounded in an explosion in northern Parwan province of Afghanistan.

The provincial criminal investigation department chief Gen. Abdul Samad Zalmai said the incident took place in Charikar city earlier today.

He said the incident took place near the provincial government’s office in Charikar city but did not disclose further information.

In the meantime, another local security official, said an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted in a motorcycle belonging to ALP commander was detonated earlier today.

The official further added that the ALP commander lost his two legs in the explosion and no casualites were incurred to the security personnel or civilians.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

Parwan is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

At least 8 people were killed and over 30 others were wounded in a suicide attack in this province earlier in the month of April this year.
