A member of the Al Qaeda terrorist network and his four comrades were arrested during an operation in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of Nangarhar province.

According to a statement released by the provincial government media office, the Al Qaeda network member has been identified as Rahmatullah.

The statement further added that Rahmatullah and his four comrades were arrested from the vicinity of the first police district of the city.

The provincial government also added that the Al Qaeda network members were arrested by the Afghan intelligence operatives.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

Nangarhar has been among the relatively calm provinces since the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001 but the anti-government armed militants have been attempting to expand their foothold in this province during the recent years.

However, the Afghan armed forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations to suppress the militant groups.
