Al Qaeda leader pledge allegiance to new supreme leader of Taliban

Al-ZawahiriThe leader of the Al Qaeda terrorist network Ayman al-Zawahiri has pledged allegiance to the newly-appointed supreme leader of the Taliban group Mawlavi Haibatullah Akhundzada.

Al-Zawahiri in a 14 minute recording has said “As leader of the al Qaeda organization for jihad, I extend my pledge of allegiance once again, the approach of Osama to invite the Muslim nation to support the Islamic Emirate,” Reuters reported.

Akhundzada was appointed as the new leader of the Taliban group late last month which followed shortly after the death of Mullah Akhtar Mansoor in a US drone strike.

Taliban said the leadership of the group appointed Akhundzada as their new leader after he was unanimously voted by the members of the group.

The notorious Sirajuddin Haqqani and Mullah Omar’s son Mulah Yaqoob were appointed as deputy supreme leader of the group.

Earlier reports suggested that the leader of Haqqani terrorist network Sirajuddin Haqqani and Mullah Omar’s son were the possible successor of Mullah Mansoor.

Mullah Mansoor was killed in a drone strike in the vicinity of Balochistan province of Pakistan on 21st May as he was traveling from the neighoring Iran.

According to reports, Mullah Mansoor had spent almost two months in Iran where he had reached to a number of understanding with the Iranian authorities on certain issues, including fight agianst the ISIS terrorist group.
