The military officials confirm an airstrike killed 25 Taliban militants in Kandahar.

The informed military officials said Saturday that the security forces conducted the airstrike in Maruf district of Kandahar.

The Kandahar Police Chief Gen. Tadin Khan Achakzai had earlier said a group of Taliban militants attacked the district administrative compound of Maruf district on Friday night.

Gen. Tadin Khan further added that the attack also inflicted casualties on Afghan security forces. Meanwhile, Gen. Tadin Khan had said the security forces killed 25 Taliban militants during the clash.

The Taliban group has not commented regarding the airstrike so far.

The security situation in Kandahar province has deteriorated during the recent months.

Taliban militants are active in some districts of the province and often conduct terrorist related activities.

Meanwhile, the Afghan forces routinely conduct counter-terrorism operations against the anti-government armed groups in this province.

The U.S. forces also conduct regular airstrikes in restive parts of the country to suppress Taliban and other anti-government militants.
