Ahmad Massoud, the son of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the National Herat of Afghanistan, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief of the National Reconciliation Council, in a statement said Ahmad Massoud has contracted the COVID-19 virus.

According to Abdullah, Massoud was busy coordinating and distributing food to poor families during the holy month of Ramadan when he contracted the virus.

This comes as the virus is rapidly spreading across the country with the Ministry of Public Health saying the total number of COVID-19 positive cases have reached to 7,653.

The public health ministry officials announced earlier today that the authorities recorded 581 new positive cases of COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours.

The officials further added that the virus also killed 5 people during the same period while 49 others recovered.
