The Independent Election Commission (IEC) officials on Wednesday announced that the presidential elections have been postponed until September.
Hawa Alam Nuristani, the Chairperson of the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan told in reporters in Kabul that the presidential elections will be organized on 28th of July.
Nuristani further added that the district council elections and the parliamentary elections in Ghazni province would also be organized on 28th of September.
In the meantime, Nuristani said the election commission would only be able to organize the elections once the necessary funds have been arranged by involved stakeholders, including government and international community.
Pointing towards last year’s controversial parliamentary elections, Nuristani urged the national figures and institutions to support the Independent Election Commission in organizing the elections.
The Presidential elections were due to be organized on 20th of July as per the schedule announced earlier.
