Afghanistan’s airspace to be fully controlled by Afghans with new modern Radar: Habibi

The director of the Independent Civil Aviation Authority of Afghanistan Mahmood Shah Habibi says the airspace of Afghanistan will be fully controlled by Afghans after the inauguration of the new modern Radar system.

Speaking during a press conference in Kabul, Habibi said the control of the airspace of Afghanistan was fully handed over to the Afghans almost 35 years.

Habibi further added that 100 Afghans have been trained to control the new radar system.

He said the inauguration and activation of the new radar system will increase the flights in Afghanistan’s airspace besides helping with the flights’ safety and increasing the domestic revenue.

According to Habibi, the revenue of the Civil Aviation Authority reached to 6 billion Afghanis last year and will efforts would be put in place to further increase the revenues of the government from the aviation sector.

The new radar system was inauguration on Thursday during a ceremony attended by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and other high level government and security officials.
