Afghanistan to release 2500 Pakistani prisoners, says JUI-F deputy

Pakistani prisoners AfghanistanAccording to reports, the government of Afghanistan has agreed to release 2500 Pakistani prisoners from the Afghanistan jails in the near future.

Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, central deputy chief of the Jamiat Ulema Islam Fazal (JUI-F) and former Pakistani senator on Saturday told reporters in Pakistan that the the prisoners will be released as part of the efforts by JUI-F chief Maualana Fazal-ur-Rehman, who had discussed the issue with president Hamid Karzai.

Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan was among the members of the JUI-F delegation who visited Kabul on a formal invitation by president Hamid Karzai.

He said, around 2500 Pakistanis are jailed in various prisons of Afghanistan and the issue of freedom of Pakistani prisoners was shared during the meeting between Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman and president Hamid Karzai.

The former Pakistani senator also pointed towards the presence of US troops in Afghanistan beyond 2014, and said that Washington still wanted to keep 9 of its bases in Afghanistan, the Pakistani media agencies reported.

Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan also added that the visit of Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman to Kabul was fruitful for maintenance of peace in the region.
