Afghanistan thrashes Bangladesh by 136 runs in final group of match of Asia Cup

The Afghanistan National Cricket Team thrashed Bangladesh by 136 runs during the final group match of the Asia Cup in United Arab Emirates tonight.

The matched started at 4pm local time of Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi city of the United Arab Emirates with Afghanistan opting to bat first after winning the toss.

Despite losing the opening batsmen in the top and the key middle order batsmen, the Afghan team managed to set a target of 256 runs for Bangladesh from 50 overs.

Afghanistan lost 7 wickets during its batting inning with Hashmatullah Shahidi scoring the highest runs in the middle order. He scored 58 runs from 92 balls.

Mohammad Shahzad scored 37 runs after opening the batting inning while Ihsanullah scored only 8 runs. Rahmat Shah scored 10 runs, Asghar Afghan 8 runs, Samiullah Shenwari 18 runs, Mohammad Nabi 10 runs.

However, it was Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan who scored the most runs in the lower order. Naib remained not out after scoring 42 runs from 38 balls and Rashid Khan scored 57 runs from 32 balls and remained not out.

The Bangladesh team could not chase the given target and lost all its wickets by scoring 119 runs from 42.1 overs with Mujeeb Ur Rehman taking the first wicket of Nazmul Hossain Shanto during the third ball of his second over.

Aftab Alam, Rahmat Shah, and Mohammad Nabi took 1 wicket each while Mujeeb Ur Rehman, Gulbadin Naib, and Rashid Khan took 2 wickets each to restrict the Bangladesh batsmen to 119 runs.

Rashid Khan was awarded the man of the match prize for his outstanding performance in all three departments but he shined the most on the batting side by scoring 57 runs from just 32 balls and by hitting 8 fours and 1 six.
