Afghanistan seeks NATO’s interference to end Pakistan shelling

pakista shelling afghanistanAfghan defense minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi has said the issue of continued cross-border shelling from the other side of border was shared during the NATO summit in Wales.

Mohammadi was speaking during the National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by President Hamid Karzai.

He said the NATO member countries were urged to take immediate steps in resolving the issue of cross-border shelling from the other side of Durand Line.

Mohammadi also welcomed the reaffirmation by NATO for continued support to Afghanistan and Afghan national security forces and said Afghanistan would receive $5.1 billion in annual defense aid from NATO until 2017.

The Pakistani military has been shelling eastern provinces of Afghanistan including Kunar and Nuristan during the recent years which has left dozens of people have been killed or injured following the cross-border shelling.

According to reports, the Pakistani military has fired over 5,000 rockets in Kunar province during the past two years.
