pak-afghan border tensionsAccording to reports, the Pakistani military forces have launched installation of barbed wire across the Durand Line.

The issue was discussed during the National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

The Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Border, Tribal and Ethics Affairs were instructed to investigate regarding the exact location where barbed barbed wire is being installed.

The two ministries were also instructed to find out regarding the position of the barbed wire from the zero point.

The installation work has reportedly been started across the Durand Line near eastern Paktika province of Afghanistan.

Pakistan and Afghanistan share an immense border stretching 1510 miles (2430 km) along the southern and eastern edges of Afghanistan.

Militants and terrorist groups are actively operating along the Durand Line and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

The porous Durand Line has also been a source of tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan where numeous cross-border attacks have been carried out during months and years.

The Pakistani army has been continously shelling eastern provinces of Afghanistan, while blaming the Afghan government for remaining reckless to act against the Pakistani militants who have take shelter in eastern Afghanistan and frequently carry out cross-border attacks.
