National Olympic Committee on Saturday expressed hope for the upcoming July, Tokyo Olympics Games
The committee tweeted, that “We are working hard to have our talented athletes on the field to once again honor Afghanistan with an Olympic medal,”
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said Friday that the delayed Tokyo Olympics would go ahead in July 2021.
Suga stated for the New Year “The Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held this summer,”, describing the event as a symbol of world unity.
“We will make steady preparations to realize a safe and secure tournament,” Suga added.
The Olympics event was canceled this year due to COVID -19 pandemic.
This comes at a time, ACB Afghanistan Cricket board announced a 16 member squad for the ODI league of ICC.
The league is expected to start this month, Afghanistan will play three ODI matches against Ireland.
Afghan National Team members include Asghar Afghan, Rahmat Shah, Nawin-Ul-Haq, Hashmat Shahidi, Yamin Ahmadzai, Osman Ghani, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rahmanullah Gurboz, Sayed Ahmad Shirzad, Najib Zadran, Jawed Ahmadi, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbuddin Naib, Mujib Rahman, and Sharafuddin Ashraf, to play the ODI matches against Ireland.
ACB announced the team has already started their exercises in the Nangarhar training camp.
Afghanistan and Ireland played 29 matches against each other since 2010 in the ODI leagues.
