Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan have signed trade and investment agreements worth more than $350 million during their first joint business forum in Bishkek, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment said.

According to the chamber, the agreements were signed in the presence of government officials and private sector representatives from both countries. The largest project is a $300 million investment to build a cement factory in Kyrgyzstan.

The two sides also agreed to establish a joint chamber of commerce aimed at expanding trade, investment and broader economic cooperation.

Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban administration has sought to strengthen economic ties with neighbouring and regional countries as Afghanistan remains largely isolated from the international financial system.

The authorities have increasingly focused on expanding regional trade and attracting investment through bilateral agreements with Central Asian states.

Kyrgyzstan is among several Central Asian countries that have expanded economic engagement with Afghanistan in recent years, particularly in trade, transport and energy. Regional governments have continued practical cooperation with the Taliban administration despite the absence of formal international recognition, viewing economic connectivity as important for regional stability and commerce.
