Afghanistan’s national futsal team concluded its campaign at the Continental Futsal Championship with a dominant 6-1 victory over New Zealand in its fourth and final match of the tournament.
The win, played on Thursday, August 6, marked Afghanistan’s first victory in the competition. Omid Qanbari scored twice, while Javad Haidari and Mehran Gholami were among the players who found the net as Afghanistan produced one of its strongest performances of the tournament.
The result came after Afghanistan recorded two defeats against Thailand and Vietnam and a draw against Russia in its previous matches. The team finished the competition with one win, one draw and two losses.
The Continental Futsal Championship, hosted in Bangkok, Thailand, ran from August 1 to August 6 and featured five teams competing for the title.
Although Afghanistan did not advance to the later stages of the tournament, the competition provided valuable international experience against stronger futsal nations and helped the team prepare for future challenges.
Afghanistan has made significant progress in futsal in recent years, with the national team continuing efforts to strengthen its squad, improve international competitiveness and establish a stronger presence in Asian futsal competitions.
The tournament was part of Afghanistan’s broader preparation for upcoming international fixtures and its long-term development programme in the sport.
