Afghanistan exported Pomegranate Juice beverage for the first time to the US, according to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC)
A Herat-based company made pomegranate soft drinks.
“The first shipment of pomegranate juice from Pamir Cola factory was exported to America from Herat Province, Afghanistan,” Interim administration’s senior spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, tweeted on Saturday.
According to the ministry’s spokeswoman, Akhundzad Abdul Salam Javad, exporting this domestic product is an essential development for the country’s economy.
“Recently, two containers carrying 45 tons of Pamir Cola Company pomegranate juice drinks were shipped to America. Also, drinks have been shipped to Germany and Kazakhstan; there are plans for expansion in this area to boost our exports to other countries,” the spokesman noted.
The company’s sales manager revealed that the company has also exported to countries in Central Asia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.
The company has been operating since 2018 and has exported its products to several other countries, including India, Pakistan, Turkey, and Germany.
Afghanistan has an annual production of over 600,000 tons and is one of the world’s top pomegranate producers. Pomegranates are grown in 33 of the country’s 34 provinces, with the most extensive producing areas being Kandahar, Helmand, Farah, Herat, and Balkh.
